Be still

Lately, I’ve been asked about my meditation practice.
“What’s it like?” "It seems hard." "I don't think I could do that."

I assure you, anyone can do it. There is no way to fail. Meditation is just sitting still and concentrating on your breath. It's stupidly simple. If you let it be.

It can also be surprisingly hard.
If you let it be.

It’s up to you.

Be still and pay attention to your breathing.
Nothing else.
When your mind wanders, no worries. Just come back to your breath. No judgement, no thought. Just come back. "I am breathing in. I am breathing out."
Be still and pay attention to your breathing.
Nothing else.

It’s like one of those contests where a bunch of people stand around a new car, and whoever leaves their hand on the longest gets to take it home.
The winner winds up on the front page of the local newspaper, with a big grin behind the wheel of their new ride. All they had to do was be still.

I invite you to give stillness a try. You won't win a car, but you might win your sanity.

Peace.
